We keep a small shop and a smaller rack. Everything here is chosen the same way: picked up, turned over, held to the light, and kept only if it will still be good in five years. Sun-washed colors, honest fabric, nothing that needs babying.
Soft-washed cotton in six colors pulled straight off a sunflower. Cut generous, hemmed short.
Lambswool, dyed in small batches. The yellow one sells out first, every single season.
Waxed canvas that starts stiff and ends up yours. Four pockets, all of them useful.
Sunshine started as one rack in the back of a friend's record store. We couldn't afford much, so we bought carefully, and that turned out to be the whole business. Ten years later we still buy the same way: fewer things, better things, in colors that make a gray morning easier.
Come in on a Saturday and there's usually coffee on. Try things on, put them back, take your time. Nobody here works on commission.
New arrivals land Friday mornings. Subscribers see them Thursday night, which is the only advantage we can offer and we take it seriously.
